Lixing Sun obtained his degree in Shanghai and then pursued a PhD in ecology, behaviour, and evolution at the State University of New York (ESF) and Syracuse University. He holds the position of Distinguished Research Professor at Central Washington University and has spent the last thirty years teaching on and researching a broad range of topics in behaviour and evolution, especially sexual reproduction, sexual selection, and gene expression in sexual development.

Lixing Sun is the author of four books, his last The Liars of Nature and the Nature of Liars (Princeton University Press, 2023) was a best book of the week in the Wall Street Journal and the New Yorker in March 2023 as well as being a bestseller on Amazon in over four categories. He also writes for a range of popular magazines such as Time, Science, Nautilus, and Psychology Today.

Lixing is a 2024-2025 Fellow of the Harvard Radcliffe Institute. He is part of the historic 25th anniversary class of fellows, marking a quarter century of pathbreaking interdisciplinary study.
