Laura Beers is a finalist for a L.A. Times Book Prize for Biography

Laura Beers’ Orwell Ghosts has been selected as a finalist for the L.A. Times Book Prize for Biography. Her book, a biography of George Orwell and examination of the relevance of his ideas is one of five finalists in the category.

The set of Prizes are in their 45th year and do not accept submissions. Instead, nominees are selected by the staff of the Los Angeles Times for works in the year of their first U.S. publication in English. Winners will be announced on the 25th of April at the Bovard Auditorium in Los Angeles. The author of each winning book receives a citation and $500.

Winners for three categories have already been announced, Pico Iyer won the Robert Kirsch Award for living writer with a substantial connection to the American West, Amanda Gorman won the Innovator’s Award for her activism and Emily Witt won the Christopher Isherwood Prize for Autobiographical Prose for Healthy and Safety.
