Masud Husain and Sadiah Qureshi shortlisted for the Royal Society Trivedi Science Book Prize

We’re thrilled to see that Masud Husain and Sadiah Qureshi are among the six nominees who have been shortlisted for the 2025 Royal Society Trivedi Science Book Prize.

The list aims to represent the “most fascinating and relevant science writing over the past year.” Previous winners of the prize have included Stephen Hawking and Bill Bryson, among many more over its 38-year history, which has featured panel judges such as Terry Pratchett and David Attenborough.

The shortlist was announced at the Edinburgh International Book Festival on Tuesday 12 August and the winner will be announced 1 October. Chair of the 2025 judges, Dr Sandra Knapp FRS, said: “The best science books don’t simply present facts or explain theories, they tell stories. They capture the creativity, determination and sacrifices involved in deepening our understanding of the world. The six books we’ve chosen for this year’s shortlist demonstrate just that.”

President of the Royal Society, Sir Adrian Smith, said:

“Science is increasingly central to our everyday lives, shaping how we live, work and understand the world around us, yet it is often perceived as difficult or distant. The Royal Society Trivedi Science Book Prize champions books that demonstrate that science belongs to all of us. They connect the frontiers of research with everyday life, placing science not in the margins, but at the heart of culture, alongside history, poetry, art and music.”
