Congratulations to Robert Macfarlane, whose book Is A River Alive has won the 2026 Sigurd F. Oslon Nature Writing Award for Adult Nonfiction!

The award was established in 1991 to honour the legacy of Sigurd F. Olson, and  recognises the best nature writing in adult nonfiction and children’s literature. The judges praised this ‘outstanding book’ by ‘one of our most gifted nature writers’ for its ability to ignite passion for rivers, whether or not you are already ‘rivered’.
