Dr John Rowan was a distinguished psychotherapist and the author of a number of books, including Subpersonalities (Routledge, 1990), Healing the Male Psyche (Routledge, 1997), and The Transpersonal: Spirituality in Psychotherapy and Counselling (Routledge, 2005). In addition he had six books of poetry published.

He was on the Editorial Board of Self & Society, the Journal of Humanistic Psychology, the Transpersonal Psychology Review and the Counselling Psychology Review. He was a founder member of the UK Association of Humanistic Psychology Practitioners, and a member of the Governing Board of the UK Council for Psychotherapy. He was a Fellow of the British Psychological Society, a qualified individual and group psychotherapist, a chartered counselling psychologist and a senior accredited counsellor and supervisor.

John Rowan died in May 2018.
