I joined David Higham Associates in 2015, having previously studied at the University of Oxford and the École normale supérieure in Paris. I am currently covering Nicola Chang‘s list.
In fiction, I admire novelists who create memorable and unsettling voices (Mariana Enríquez, Samanta Schweblin, Robert Walser), who write at the edges of fiction (Kathryn Scanlan, W. G. Sebald, Benjamín Labatut), and short story writers with a keen sense of the poetic and absurd (Lydia Davis, Denis Johnson, Kevin Barry).
In non-fiction, I enjoy immersive narratives that can open up times, places and experiences for the reader (the work of Janet Malcolm, Mark O’Connell’s A Thread of Violence, Sam Knight’s The Premonitions Bureau), and projects of rigour, clarity and passion that can make small ideas radiate and big ideas graspable (Merlin Sheldrake’s Entangled Life, Peter Godfrey-Smith’s Other Minds). I particularly look for works of academic research or journalistic investigation written for a wide readership, across areas such as culture, philosophy, politics, history, science and nature.
I also assist Andrew Gordon with his list.
I am closed to submissions at the present time.
