Phyllis Bottome (1884-1963) was a British novelist and short story writer whose novel, The Lifeline, is believed to have been the inspiration for Ian Fleming’s James Bond, Fleming having been a pupil at a school run by Phyllis and her husband.

Four of her novels, The Mortal Storm, Private Worlds, Danger Signal and The Heart of a Child have been adapted for film.
