Rebecca K Reilly (Ngati Hine, Ngāti Rehua Ngātiwai ki Aotea) is a Māori writer from Auckland, New Zealand. She holds a BA (Hons) in German Literature from the University of Auckland and an MA in Creative Writing from the International Institute of Modern Letters, where she won the Adam Prize.
Her first novel Greta & Valdin was published in New Zealand by Te Herenga Waka Press in 2021, and by Penguin Random House (UK) and Simon & Schuster (US) in 2024, where it was a New York Times Editor’s Choice and a Book of the Year for Time and NPR. It was awarded the Hubert Church Prize for Fiction and the Aotearoa Booksellers’ Choice Award, and was shortlisted for the Waterstones Debut Prize and a Lambda Literary Award.
She is currently working on her second novel.
