Starved, sun-scorched and dangerously dehydrated, Demetria is barely recognizable as human when she is plucked from the ocean by the crew of the Laurentia Bay. Having risked everything to escape her oppressive life on High Island, she desperately hopes that she is finally free.

But the world beyond the island is an even more terrifying place, where people are condemned for their beliefs and castaways like Demetria are accused of being enemy spies. Far from being over, it seeems the struggle for freedom has only just begun.
