Joe Berger has been producing commercial, editorial and book illustration since the early 1990s, and from 2001- 2021 was co-creator of the weekly Berger & Wyse cartoon in the Guardian newspaper. He also makes award-winning animated short films and title sequences, and sells limited edition prints and screen prints of cartoons and other artworks via a London-based dealer.

His children’s book illustration career began in 2008 with two picture books for Puffin: Bridget Fidget in 2008, and Bridget Fidget, Hold on Tight in 2011.  He has since illustrated over 40 children’s books for other authors, notably Frank Cottrell Boyce’s Chitty Chitty Bang Bang reboot (Macmillan, 2012-2014), and Tracey Corduroy’s Hubble Bubble series for Nosy Crow. Joe was World Book Day illustrator in 2010.

In 2017 Simon & Schuster published The Pudding Problem, the first of Joe’s Lyttle Lies graphic novels, followed by The Stinky Truth in 2019. Recent book titles include Sometimes I am Furious, and Sometimes I Just Won’t, both written by Timothy Knapman for Macmillan; and Sammy Striker and the Football Cup by Catherine Emmett, also for Macmillan (2023).

Joe grew up in Bristol, and after a 17 year stint in London, moved back to Bristol with his wife and three daughters in 2006, where he has lived ever since.
