The pre-eminent Australian novelist of his generation, Tim Winton has published 28 books for adults and children – fiction and non-fiction – and his work has been translated into 28 languages, including Chinese, Czech, Danish, Dutch, Finnish, French, German, Greek, Hebrew, Italian, Korean, Norwegian, Polish, Russian, Spanish and Swedish.
Since his first novel, An Open Swimmer, won the Australian Vogel Award in 1981 he has won the Miles Franklin Award four times for Shallows, Cloudstreet, Dirt Music, and Breath and has twice been shortlisted for the Booker Prize (for The Riders and Dirt Music). His 2015 novel Eyrie was shortlisted for the 2014 Miles Franklin Award.
The Boy Behind the Curtain is a collection of personal essays about class, faith and being a writer and was published in 2017. Most recently, The Shepherd’s Hut was published in June 2018.
Tim Winton was born in Western Australia where he still lives.
